Are antler rings durable?

Antler jewelry is uniquely durable and not as delicate as one might think; however, it does require some special care to maintain its beauty and integrity. To prevent any potential damage, it's essential to remove your jewelry before engaging in rough activities, such as sports or manual work. Additionally, for your safety, always take off your pieces when operating machinery or working with heavy equipment, as this can help avoid accidents and preserve your jewelry.  Please note, my warranty covers defects in craftsmanship, and does not cover damage done by the wearer.   By taking these precautions, you can enjoy your stunning antler pieces while keeping both yourself and your accessories safe.
The specific care that your jewelry requires depends on the materials used.  please refer to the item description(s) of your purchase and choose the appropriate care guide below.

How to care for antler rings and antler jewelry

Caring for Sterling Silver antler jewelry

Caring for sterling silver jewelry is essential to ensure its longevity and beauty. The Antlered Doe sterling silver pieces are waterproof, but it is suggested to remove them before swimming or showering to protect the sterling.  Please keep in mind that sterling silver is a relatively soft metal and prongs can get damaged while removing latex gloves or if they are snagged.  Please inspect prongs occasionally and contact me if you have any loose stones. Always store your pieces in a cool, dry place, ideally in a soft pouch or jewelry box to prevent scratches and tarnishing. Avoid exposing your jewelry to harsh chemicals, such as cleaning agents or perfumes, or hard water, which can damage the metal and any decorative inlays. Inlays can stain if exposed to chemicals or dyes. One crucial point to remember is that bending sterling silver jewelry can compromise its structure, potentially causing decorative inlays to pop out or stones to fall loose. Handle your pieces gently and remove them before engaging in any activities that could put stress on the jewelry. By following these guidelines, you can keep your sterling silver pieces looking stunning for years to come.  All sterling silver does tarnish, but it can be easily cleaned with a polishing cloth or sterling silver jewelry cleaner.

Caring for titanium, tungsten or stainless steel antler jewelry

Caring for these materials is relatively straightforward, thanks to their impressive durability. My stainless steel engagement rings are the most durable engagement ring option and are ideal for an active woman.  To maintain their shine, simply clean your ring regularly with warm, soapy water and a soft cloth, avoiding harsh chemicals that could dull the finish. While tungsten is highly resistant to scratches, it’s essential to avoid exposing your ring to extreme impacts or heavy machinery, as it can be brittle under certain conditions and can shatter. My warranty does not cover shattered tungsten.  Additionally, be cautious about wearing your tungsten ring during activities that involve prolonged exposure  harsh environments such as ocean water, as this can affect any inlays or finishes. IMPORTANT- Do not pair stainless steel engagement rings with sterling silver bands- the hardness of stainless steel will damage sterling silver rings and destroy them. If you are looking for durability, these designs are the most durable design the Antlered Doe offers. With proper care, your ring will remain a stunning and enduring symbol of style for years to come.

Caring for hand carved antler jewelry

Congratulations for scoring a hand carved antler piece!  These extremely limited art pieces are added on occasion in small quantities. Caring for hand-carved antler jewelry from Antlered Doe requires some thoughtful attention to ensure its beauty and longevity. Hand carved antler rings are made entirely from antler by owner/artist Alyssa, with no metal elements touching the skin- this makes them ideal for individuals with metal allergies.  While these exquisite rings are now waterproof, they are not indestructible, so it’s essential to remove your jewelry before swimming, showering, sleeping, or engaging in activities that could cause damage. Remember that antler is a porous material, similar to bone, which means it can stain if exposed to dyes or pigments. Additionally, hand sanitizers can dry out the antler over time, potentially leading to issues with the sealant used to protect the piece. As these creations are true art pieces, their unique nature means they may not always be practical for every situation. Treat your antler jewelry with care, and it will continue to be a cherished addition to your collection for years to come.
